Beginner Digital Referee Course

This course includes only online modules. You must complete all portions of the course to earn the Digital Referee License.

Taking this course will not allow you to earn premium pay, referee bonuses or upgrade to any higher levels of competition until you are a full referee. If you were registered as a referee for 2023, 2024 or 2025, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS COURSE. (Visit Recertification)

This course is for NEW referees OR those returning to the game after more than a 3 year absence. If you have extensive referee experience, contact the SRC to see what course is right for you.

Upon successful completion of this course, the referee will be able to work sanctioned games from July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027 - provided all necessary safety requirements have been met and maintained.

This course certifies you to work any 'grassroots' youth or adult game in Montana.  You may elect to take the Digital Referee Bridge Upgrade Course after your first year to become a full Referee, or take the Digital Referee course again to maintain your level.

• U.S. Soccer requires that all referees must be 13-years-old at the time of registration, no exceptions.

• Register only as the referee, using a personal email address. Do not register with a work or school email, or as a parent.

• Those 18 and over must complete SafeSport and submit/pass a background check in the Learning Center ($23.00 for 2 years).

• Clinic cost is $40 and covers registration with U.S. Soccer, Badge, Liability Insurance and Clinic. (Check with your local club for scholarship opportunities.)

• Must be a resident of Montana at time of registration.
