Become a Referee

On behalf of the State Referee Committee, thank you for your interest in becoming a certified US Soccer Federation referee! Without your help, soccer in Montana would not exist and we're sure you'll enjoy the experience, comradery, challenges and rewards that refereeing can provide. Please email Justin Harcrow if you have any questions about what refereeing entails.

The US Soccer Referee Federation Grassroots Referee Course is specific to the competitive youth and adult game. This is an entry level course for new referees. The course consists of online learning modules in the US Soccer Learning Center (LC) that must be completed prior to attending an in-person field session.

The Grassroots course is $45 (+fee) and you must be 13 years old at the time of registration. Those 18 and over must be able to pass a background check. An additional $30 (+fee) will be collected for the background check which will be good for 2 years.

New courses are typically held in the spring and fall. Please contact us if you don't see a course near you prior to registering for another course.

If you would like to host a new referee course in your area, contact Jack Dockery, State Director of Instruction (SDI), about what is needed to host a course.
